09/12/26 | WBHS Cross Country competes at the Averill Invitational The WBHS cross country team ran at the Averill Invitational on Saturday, September 12th @ Kensington Metropark. The meet is named after longtime West Bloomfield High School Coach Lee Averill. Coach Averill served as the cross country and track & field coach @ WBHS for 47 years. This meet proved to be extremely competitive, as 21 schools participated in two divisions (gold & silver). The boys team placed in both the gold (8th place) and silver (13th place) divisions. Leading the way in the gold division was Musa Kay. Musa placed 33rd and earned a medal. Leading the way in the silver division was Owen Burrows (98th place). Overall highlights for the boys: 1 medal / 5, 2 mile goal times / 7 season PR’s & 2 career PR’s! The girls team competed in the silver division and did not have a team score. The top finisher for the Lakers was Ashleigh Hamby. Ashleigh placed 35th and earned a medal. Also running were: Zofia Burtka (52nd place), Grace McDowell (81st place) & Hailey Sullivan (88th place). Overall highlights for the girls: 1 medal / 2, 2 mile goal times / 2 career PR’s! Your “Lakers of the Meet” are: BOYS Daniel Thomakos: Daniel ran a “NEW” Kensington course pr. Beating his previous time by 2 minutes and 40 seconds. Yamen Alnajjar: Yamen beat his 2 mile goal time and ran a “NEW” career & Kensington course pr. Beating his previous pr by 1 minute and 47 seconds. GIRLS Hailey Sullivan: Hailey beat her 2 mile goal time and ran a “NEW” career & Kensington course pr. Beating her previous pr by 1 minute and 4 seconds.
