The West Bloomfield High School boys varsity lacrosse team secured a hard-fought 6–5 victory at home against Troy Athens, earning redemption after an earlier season loss to the Red Hawks. Coming into the matchup with a focused mindset, the Lakers committed to a full week of intense practice along with two dedicated days in the weight room. That preparation paid off, as West Bloomfield delivered a complete team performance in a tightly contested game. Captain Kyle Geiser led the offensive charge with an outstanding five-goal performance. In a lighthearted but telling moment, Geiser called for support during the game, to which Coach Banicki responded that it was okay to be the “Michael Jordan” of the team. Geiser embraced the role, stepping up when it mattered most. Captain Alex Pomeroy contributed an additional goal to round out the scoring. A pivotal moment came on the man-up offense, where the Lakers capitalized with a key goal out of their “Top Gun” set. In a game where every goal mattered, the execution of their extra-man opportunity proved critical. The unit’s success was no accident, as the team dedicated significant practice time throughout the week to refining their extra-man and zone-breaker offense. Defensively, the Lakers were exceptional. The close defense unit—Nick Voorhees, Ian Hamann, and captain Noam Schlagman—played one of their most disciplined games of the season, finishing with zero penalties while consistently shutting down Troy Athens’ offensive opportunities. Schlagman also made his presence felt in both the opening and closing phases of the game, anchoring the defensive effort. Additional contributions came from across the roster, including freshman Richard Hammill and sophomore Jack Jozwick, who stepped in to support the team and provide valuable depth. The Lakers’ ability to play clean, physical lacrosse while staying composed under pressure proved to be the difference in the one-goal victory. West Bloomfield looks to carry this momentum forward as they continue building toward the heart of their season.
