The West Bloomfield boys swim and dive team wrapped up a strong showing at the Blue Division League Meet, finishing fourth overall with 291 points. With just 13 athletes competing, the Lakers delivered an impressive performance, showcasing tremendous improvement from the beginning of the season to the league finale. Leading the way was senior Trae Lewis, who made league history with a dominant performance. Lewis broke two Blue Division league records in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke. He also set a new All-League record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.01. Lewis captured league titles in both the 200 IM and 100 backstroke (49.80), cementing his status as one of the area’s elite swimmers. Sophomore Alex Eichbrecht added to the team’s success by earning a league championship in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.81, highlighting the bright future of the program. The boys 200 free relay won the event with a time of 1:37.64. Leading off was Alec Eichbrecht (23.73), followed by Rayan Albialy (25.66), Daniel Kim (24.92) and Trae Lewis (23.33). The 400 Free relay hit a seasonal best time and finished in second place only being out touched by less than a second. Starting the first leg was Alec Eichbrecht (51.86), followed by Daniel Kim (54.99), Owen Marshall (56.66) and anchored by Trae Lewis (45.85). In diving, the meet marked a bittersweet moment as the team’s dive coach, Nick Fraylick, judged his final competition before retirement. He closed out his coaching career on a high note, guiding two divers to third- and fourth-place finishes at the league meet. Both Parker Gnesin and Gio Massa started diving just this season. The Lakers now turn their focus to the state meet at Oakland University, where Senior Trae Lewis will compete in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke as he looks to continue his record-breaking season.
